Akpabio Jokes About Viral AI Video Allegedly Showing Oshiomhole on Private Jet
ABUJA — Senate President Godswill Akpabio sparked laughter during Thursday’s Senate plenary after joking about a viral video that allegedly showed Senator Adams Oshiomhole aboard a private jet with a woman, saying lawmakers initially believed the footage was likely generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
Akpabio made the lighthearted remark while deliberating on petitions before the Senate, using the incident as an example of why allegations should be backed by credible evidence before being taken seriously.
“I don’t want to go outside of what we are doing, but I would have asked a question when there was a picture showing one of our senators in a plane, massaging the leg of a girl,” Akpabio said, drawing laughter from lawmakers.
Addressing Oshiomhole directly, the Senate President recounted that Senator Simon Lalong had advised him not to place much importance on the viral footage because of concerns that it may have been digitally manipulated.
“Senator Oshiomhole, your friend, your very good friend Senator Lalong came to give me security information. He said that we just ignored the message because we thought it was AI,” Akpabio said.
He added that the Senate would only consider such a matter if supported by verifiable evidence.
“But if you have another evidence, we have a petition before us, we can look into it if it’s not AI,” he stated.
The Viral Oshiomhole Video
Akpabio’s comments referred to a video that circulated widely on social media in February 2026. The footage appeared to show a man resembling the Edo North senator seated inside what looked like a private jet while a woman rested her legs on his lap.
The video quickly generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether it was authentic or digitally manipulated.
Oshiomhole Denied the Video’s Authenticity
Following the video’s circulation, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, through his media aide, Oseni Momodu, dismissed the footage as fake.
His media team alleged that the clip had been fabricated using artificial intelligence to damage the former Edo State governor’s reputation.
The statement also urged Nigerians to verify online content before sharing it, warning about the growing use of AI-generated misinformation. It further disclosed that efforts were underway to identify those responsible for creating and distributing the disputed video.
Akpabio’s comments during plenary have once again drawn attention to the increasing challenges posed by AI-generated content and the need for public officials and citizens alike to verify the authenticity of viral videos before drawing conclusions.
